With a population of approximately 6 million, Santiago has a high standard of living and is safe and prosperous city. Situated in the centre of Chile its location at the base of the Andes makes an excellent location from which to explore other parts of the country.
During the week you can enjoy the vibrant city life of good cafes, restaurants, bars and live entertainment but still have easy access to the great outdoors for activities such as hiking, skiing, mountain biking or rafting at the drop of a hat on the weekends.
Two hours by bus from Santiago, Viña del Mar and the neighbouring town of Valparaiso have a warm climate, beautiful parks and gardens and a great variety of beaches, bars, and restaurants.
Valparaiso is well known for its cable cars, museums, and graffitied buildings which give the city its artistic flair. However in both locations you will find outdoor theatre and dance performances, carnivals and street parties going on. The region also boasts an excellent selection of outdoor activities such as excursions to national parks, sea sports, horseback riding and sand boarding. A perfect destination whatever time of year!
