Spanish in Ecuador

About the Country

Ecuador is the smallest of the Andean countries, safe and pleasant to travel in.

Ecuador enjoys a tropical climate with four very different regions. La costa has a dry and wet season with fine beaches and fishing villages. ‘La sierra’ has spring-like weather all year round. El oriente is the name of the rainforest of the Amazon where rain is constant. Travel through the rainforest is easier here than in any other country. Las galapagos have a special microclimate abundant with wildlife and natural beauty.

Ecuador is the perfect location to experience the treasures of South America whilst learning Spanish.

Cuenca

Cuenca is the cultural capital of Ecuador and is its third largest city. In 1999 Cuenca was honored by UNESCO, which declared its center a World Cultural Heritage Site.

Cuenca is a city of intriguing contrasts just waiting to be discovered. Its narrow cobblestone streets, whitewashed red-tiled buildings, handsome plazas and domed churches blend with art galleries, cool cafés and welcoming bars where the friendly locals are always eager to assist.
