City Info
Habaneros, the inhabitants of Habana love their city and it’s not difficult to see why. Habana has a warm, sub tropical climate where the average temperature throughout the year varies between 20ºC (68ºF) and 35ºC (95ºF).

Havana was founded in 1519 by the Spanish and by the 17th century it had become one of the Caribbean's main centres for ship-building. Although it is today a sprawling metropolis of 2 million inhabitants, its old centre retains an interesting mix of Baroque and neoclassical monuments, and a homogeneous ensemble of private houses with arcades, balconies, wrought-iron gates and internal courtyards.

Many of Old Havana's finest buildings have been converted into museums, and there are churches, palaces, castles, revolutionary monuments and markets to visit; however, the renovations are only slowly extending to residential areas. The most outstanding sights include the Plaza de la Catedral, one of the most beautiful squares in the city, and the towers of the Catedral de San Cristóbal de La Habana which dominate the square.

Havana sizzles by night, the weekly entertainment newspaper is stuffed with cinema and theatre programs and listings of galleries, bars, nightclubs and cultural events. Cuban cuisine is a fusion of Spanish, African and Caribbean cuisines. Recipes share spices and techniques, resulting in a unique, interesting and flavorful blend of all the different cultural influences.

QUOTE - Fico Fellove from the movie The Lost City "Havana is very much like a rose, it has petals and it has thorns, so it depends on how you grab it, but in the end it always grabs you"
